Eating Disorder Therapist

Specialist Dr. Angela Karras
psychologist

Not long ago, I dealt with my own eating disorder.

I found myself struggling with chronic dieting, binge eating, and in an unhealthy relationship with food and my body.

Through my recovery, I realized that an eating disorder isn’t simply about what food you eat or what your body looks like. It is deeply rooted in issues of fear, shame, guilt, and lack of self- acceptance.

As a clinical psychologist specializing in eating disorders, I have a strong passion for helping others reclaim their life from diet culture, achieve wellness without obsession, and find peace with food and their bodies.

I am here to help you leave your struggles with food, exercise, and body image behind, so you can gain your life back and develop a lifelong, healthy, & sustainable relationship with food.

Whether you’re:

  • Afraid of your body changing

  • Experiencing food guilt or shame

  • Rigidly avoiding “unhealthy” foods

  • Trapped in a vicious cycle of under-eating and over-eating

It’s essential to realize that these challenges point to deeper issues of self-worth and fear.

“The Best Time To Start Therapy Is As Soon As You’re Thinking About It.”

Healing from an eating disorder requires a personalized and collaborative approach.

When you start therapy with me, we’ll begin by assessing your relationship with food and determining the best path forward. If necessary, we’ll build a care team—including a nutritionist, psychiatrist, and primary care physician—to ensure your physical and emotional health is fully supported.

From there, we work together to break harmful habits like excessive calorie counting, dieting, and over-exercising. You’ll learn to reconnect with your body’s natural hunger cues and move toward intuitive eating, which fosters food freedom and body acceptance.

Techniques I Use To Help

  • Helps change harmful thoughts and behaviors around food and body image.

  • Teaches you to listen to your body and trust its signals without judgment.

  • Focuses on valuing yourself beyond weight or appearance, and finding a life of purpose and fulfillment.
